FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Why do attorneys need Certified Legal Nurse Consultants?
Certified LNCs are experienced registered nurses who have studied under a training program that provides insight into the medical-legal interface. Nowhere else will you find this level of cost-effective expertise for reviewing medical records, understanding the terminology and subtleties of healthcare and applying them to the legal process. We provide attorneys with the insider advantage and efficiency in medically related case work up.
2. Why don’t I just use my MD expert?
(Cost and analysis) While MD experts are vital to a case, we can identify the right specialist, right time and right order to engage the more expensive consulting and testifying experts. This can translate into significant cost savings. MD experts may only review their area of expertise instead of the whole chart and may have a limited viewpoint of other provider’s standards of care due to their specialty focus. It may be cost prohibitive to pay your MD experts to prepare chronologies, extraction reports and perform all the research and education needed for your case work up.
RN’s are at the frontlines of patient care contributing to the record and critiquing the documentation of many different specialists on a daily basis. Even though handwritten medical records are being replaced by electronic; there are many hybrid systems still out there. We are experts at reading physician handwriting and multi-disciplined specialty records. Lastly, collaborating with physicians makes for better outcomes.
